BIRATNAGAR, Jan 9: Anil Pokharel, personal secretary to Rishikesh Pokharel, chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the federal parliament, has been arrested on charges of fraud on Thursday morning.
Pokhrel, a member of CPN-UML Morang district committee, is accused of defrauding Rs 3.88 million. He allegedly took the amount from Bowalal Chaudhary of Saptari, promising to secure an MBBS seat for his daughter.

According to police, investigations have begun following a directive from the Biratnagar High Court.
Separately, Pokharel’s employer, Rishikesh Pokharel, also faces controversy as his wife, Anjala Koirala, was recently accused of embezzlement in a cooperative scam. After being on the run, she appeared in court on Wednesday and was released on Rs 1 million bail.
