Singapore’s passport world’s most powerful, Nepal's ranked 101st

Nepal’s passport ranks 101st in the latest Henley Passport Index for the first half of 2025, granting its holders visa-free access to only 39 countries.

KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Nepal’s passport ranks 101st in the latest Henley Passport Index for the first half of 2025, granting its holders visa-free access to only 39 countries. This places Nepal among countries with weaker passports compared to global leaders like Singapore, whose passport holds the top position, allowing visa-free access to 195 countries.


According to the Henley Passport Index, Singapore's passport holds the top position as the world's most powerful, granting its citizens the ability to travel to 195 countries without a visa. Japan's passport ranks second, allowing visa-free travel to 193 countries. South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Finland share the third position, with their passports allowing visa-free access to 192 countries.

Somalia, Nepal, Palestine, and Bangladesh rank above Pakistan. Nepal's passport is at 101st position on the list, allowing its holders to visit only 39 countries without a visa. Bhutan's passport is ranked 90th while Somalia's passport ranks 102nd globally. India's passport ranks 85th worldwide, granting its holders visa-free access to 57 countries. However, India's passport ranking has dropped by 5 positions compared to last year.


South Asian countries have weak passports, and Pakistan has once again ranked among the countries with the weakest passports. Pakistan's passport ranks 103rd. Notably, Yemen, a country embroiled in a civil war, also ranks in the same category. Pakistani passport holders can only visit 33 countries without a visa. Countries with passports weaker than Pakistan's include Iraq (104th), Syria (105th), and Afghanistan (106th).
