USA, Jan 9: The Louisiana Department of Health has reported the first human death from bird flu in the United States. The patient was over 65 years old.
The Louisiana Department of Health reported that a patient hospitalized with the first human case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Louisiana has died. The Louisiana Department of Health said in a statement. The patient is the only human case of H5N1 in Louisiana.
"The department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the patient in the loss of their loved one," the statement said. People who work in close contact with birds, poultry, or livestock are at increased risk, the statement said.
Bird flu detected in eight places of Chitwan
The Louisiana Department of Health said the best way to protect yourself and your family from H5N1 is to avoid sources of exposure. This means avoiding direct contact with wild birds and animals infected with the bird flu virus.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a total of 66 human cases of bird flu have been reported in the US.
The ten states with bird flu cases in the US are California, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Oregon, Missouri, Washington, Wisconsin, and Texas.
The case reported in Louisiana was the first case of H5N1 bird flu in the US.
