Workshop held to save endangered Magahi language

DHANUSHA, April 14: The National Language Commission has launched a campaign to save the Magahi language that is facing an existential crisis. 



The Commission held a one-day workshop at Dalkebar of Mithila municipality in Dhanusha to determine the Magahi language's class and for collecting its words. 



During the workshop presided over by Nepal Backward Class (OBC) Federation Chairman Bharat Prasad Mahato the words of the Magahi language were identified. The words were collected following a discussion with the Magahi language experts spread across 22 districts of Madhes. 



At the programme, linguist Prof Dr Madhav Prasad Pokharel and Commission's Secretary Ram Sharan Sapkota said the words were collected after consultations with the linguists aimed at determining the class of the Magahi language. RSS
