CHITWAN, Dec 21: As many as twelve rhinos were found dead in the Chitwan National Park (CNP) and its buffer zone in the last five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
According to Avinash Thapa Magar, Information Officer at the CNP, among those found dead, four were male and five were female while the number of rhinos with unidentified sex stood at three in this period.

Likewise, a tiger was found dead during the same period. According to Thapa Magar, The wild cat of around six years lost its life to fight with another tiger at Nandapur Ghat in Amaltari area in the district.
Similarly, two people died and four sustained injuries in rhino attacks in the last five months. Thapa Magar said that the deceased were from Nawalpur Bardaghat Susta (East).
Meanwhile, CNP security personnel held 150 people on the charge of conducting illegal activities within the national park in the time period of five months. They were arrested for allegedly poaching and smuggling rhinos' horns, killing tigers, as well as other illegal activities.
