KATHMANDU, Jan 15: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that unique festivals of different communities stand as a symbol of unity of Nepali society. He also mentioned that such festivals would promote social harmony and community spirit.

Extending best wishes on the occasion of Maghi of Tharu community and Maghe Sankranti (Makar Sankranti) of Magar and other communities, he said that the practice of celebrating the same festival in different geographies and communities according to our own original tradition and culture is a good example of cultural tolerance.

Wishing happiness, peace, prosperity, health and longevity to all Nepalis at home and abroad, Chairman Dahal recalled that Nepal is a country full of geographical and cultural diversity.

In his message of best wishes, he said, "These festivals have been playing an important role in establishing unity and brotherhood with new fervor and enthusiasm. Such cultural festivals can also be taken as a pillar to strengthen the foundation of Nepali society, national unity and integrity.”

"We have not been able to celebrate our festivals because of the global outbreak of the coronavirus," he said, urging people to protect themselves and their communities from the pandemic and to adhere to all standards of health care.
