KATHMANDU, Nov 27: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided not to disconnect electricity supply of the defaulting industries.

A meeting of the NEA’s board of directors, which was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, decided not to disconnect the line of the industries after the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) issued directives.

The government had earlier instructed the NEA to collect the arrears, and immediately reconnect the lines by giving 15 days ultimatum to the defaulting industries. Following this, the NEA had said that electricity supply would be disconnected to industries that failed to pay their dues within the given 15-day period.

As the deadline expires today, a meeting of the board of directors was held. The NEA was preparing to disconnect the lines in response to the unpaid arrears. However, the ERC issued a directive yesterday stating not to cut the supply.
