FDRA, an outcome of Dahal's power lust: Baidya

By No Author
KATHMANDU, Aug 17: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya on Friday accused UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who heads the newly formed Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA), of forging the front with intent of becoming prime minister.

Speaking at Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, Baidya said Dahal forged the alliance to facilitate his way to power and that the ruling front is more inclined to prolong their stay in power, rather than ending the current crisis. [break]

He also said the new alliance’s adoption of identity-based federalism as its key agenda is nothing but just a ploy to mislead the people. “The parties in Dahal’s new front have already relinquished federalism, with the dissolution of Constituent Assembly (CA),” he added.

Baidya claimed there is no possibility of consensus among the political parties at least for now. “There cannot be consensus immediately. Therefore, we have to carry on agitation, at the same time, to press for consensus.”

Saying that the government has failed, he asked Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to resign immediately. He further ruled out any new government under NC or UML’s leadership.

He said now the revolutionary forces should take charge of government to end the current stalemate, adding that his party is in contention to lead such a government. He, however, said he does not want to be PM in the existing situation.
