SURKHET, July 21: Frequent cases of missing girls/women and children are not new in Surkhet, the district in Karnali province. The number of such cases reported to the police last fiscal year (2017-2018) was 337 and among them, 78 were boys, 43 girls and 206 women. 


So far, 196 -- 49 boys, 34 girls and 113 women-- have been found, but the remaining 131 including 29 boys, nine children and 93 women are still missing. The District Police office, Surkhet unveiled the statistics through a press meet here today.

The disappeared are being searched for by the police, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shyam Chaudhary. 


Depression, drug abuse, domestic quarrel, and problems in marriage and in relationship are apparent major causes forcing them to leave home, police said. RSS
