KATHMANDU, April 25: The country recorded a total of 131 incidents of violence against women (VAW) in the month of Chaitra (March/April).
Of them, 16 were incidents of sexual assault including seven gang rapes and one murder after rape, according to the monthly documentation by the Women Rehabilitation Centre or WOREC. The documentation is based on the complaints received by the Centre and news reports about such incidents in the media.

More than 53 percent of those affected by the incidents are girls below the age of 16 while 22 percent were between 17 to 30 years, according to WOREC Programme Director Abhiram Raya.
Likewise, more than 50 percent of women and girls who suffered VAW including rape suffered at the hands of persons known to them including relatives and neighbors. RSS
