POKHARA, Dec 18: Chief Justice Sushila Karki on Saturday directed the district's judges to settle the registered cases related to violence against women (VAW) within the next three months.
At an interaction on women's access to justice and coordination between concerned stakeholders held by the Supreme Court (SC) here, CJ Karki called for broadening the scope of people's trust towards the court by providing quick and quality service to the backward communities.
"Lack of information on subjects of women's rights and justice, less capacity to afford, cumbersome procedures, unclear legal provisions, and absence of service-recipient friendly environment has obstructed the women's access to justice," Karki argued.
The role of the legal entrepreneurs is important for implementation of the court's verdicts on the cases, she added. The Chief Justice also called for effective provision for giving justice to the victims and punishing the perpetrators.
On the occasion, SC Justice, Sapana Pradhan Malla, conceded that women were still not getting access to justice and called for a transformation in thoughts, values and norms to give justice to women. RSS
