KATHMANDU, March 4: As many as 120 cases of violence against women (VAW) were recorded in various places of the country from mid-January to mid-February, according to the Women's Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC Nepal).
A compilation and analysis of the news on the same published in various media by WoREC Nepal shows that there were 35 cases of physical violence, 28 rapes, 17 mental violence, 11 deprivation from modern amenities and nine murders. Similarly, six cases of sexual misconduct and attempt of rape and eight of other forms of violence were reported during a month.
1,319 VAW cases recorded last year
Among the victims, those from 17-25 were the hardest hit, according to the press statement released by WOREC Nepal today. Many women were reported to have suffered from their own spouse accounting to 35 per cent of the total VAW reported.
Likewise, 4 per cent of the 120 cases of VAW recorded in the Nepali month of Magh were from their teachers and 12 from the strangers. RSS
