KATHMANDU, Aug 30: A total of 131 people died in the incidents of water-induced disasters across the country in the past one and half month. 



In a meeting of the Legislature-Parliament's State Affairs Committee today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi said 24 people have reported gone missing in the incidents of natural disasters occurred in different parts of the country in this period. Likewise, the number of the injured is 66. 



According to him, the landslides and floods completely damaged 952 houses and inflicted partial damages on 606 houses. 



Relief and Rescue 



The local securities bodies were immediately mobilised to carry out rescue and relief efforts, following the disasters. Each bereaved family bereaved was provided monetary assistance of Rs 100,000. 



Likewise, those families who were left homeless in the disasters were provided Rs 10,000 each from the respective District Development Committee. 



The government has introduced a plan to set up emergency work operation centers in all the districts and decided to announce 83 locations in the Kathmandu Valley as open spaces bearing in mind the probability of occurrence of natural disasters. 



The government has made arrangements for resuming traffic on the highways and subways hit by landslides, it is said. 



On the occasion, the Deputy Prime Ministers stressed on the need of forging a national agreement to end misconducts in the transport sector with ending the existing syndicate system. 



He went on saying that the government was committed to seeking a solution to problems being faced by the people of Nepal-India border areas due to embankments constructed by the Indian side though a diplomatic way. RSS
