Floods and landslides kill 70 in Province 1

BIRATNAGAR, Oct 23: Floods and landslides that occurred following incessant rains have killed 70 people in Province 1. Addressing a meeting of the Province Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister Bhim Acharya said that 70 people have been killed in the recent incidents of floods and landslides in Province 1 as of Friday.


Chief Minister Acharya said a total of 18 people have been injured and 12 have gone missing due to floods and landslides. He said that paddy planted in 10,000 hectares of the total ​​50,000 hectares in Province 1 has been damaged.

Although the floods and landslides in Province 1 have caused huge loss of life and property, the full details of the damage are yet to come.


Similarly, the government is preparing to provide relief to the houses damaged by the floods and landslides, according to Acharya. The provincial government is preparing to provide relief of Rs 300,000 for the construction of fully damaged houses, Rs 35,000 for the repair of partially damaged houses and Rs 15,000 for the repair of houses with minor damage. 


In Province 1, a total of 40 houses have been completely damaged while 1,825 houses have been partially damaged. Acharya said that relief would be provided to the farmers after receiving the details of the loss they have incurred.
