KATHMANDU, Oct 20: As many as 16 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides following incessant rain across the country. According to our district correspondents, 16 people died after their houses were hit by landslides and floods, while 23 people are still missing.
The heavy rainfall has created the risk of many settlements being waterlogged and has affected the daily life of the local residents. Transport services have also been disrupted due to the rainfall. The floods and landslides have displaced hundreds of people.
As many as eight people lost their lives in Doti due to the incessant rainfall. According to the District Police Office, Doti, five people lost their lives after two houses collapsed on Tuesday noon following the rainfall, while three died on Monday.

Similarly, one died in Dhangadi while three died due to floods and landslides in Baitadi.
Likewise, as many as 26 people are still missing after seven houses were buried in landslide debris. According to Bikram Chand, spokesperson for the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, the displaced families have been relocated to a local school. Also, three people are missing in Kailali following the incessant rainfall.
Settlements near the Mahakali River and Karnali River have been waterlogged as well. Thousands of people have been left displaced as a result.
As many as 60 people in Sigas Rural Municipality in Baitadi are left stranded in the middle of the river. Although rescue operations are being carried out with the help of a helicopter, it is not easy to do so at the moment due to bad weather, officials said.
All the roads have been obstructed in the hill districts of Sudurpaschim Province. As telephone services remain disrupted and as rescue teams remain stranded due to the blocked roads, the overall damage from the rainfall cannot be estimated at the time being.
Furthermore, the rain has also thrown out of gear livelihoods in Karnali as well. Two people have died following the incessant rain in the province. In Dharan, as many as two people lost their lives after a house was hit by a landslide on Tuesday.
