JUMLA, Oct 12: Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall for the past one week have claimed 10 lives in Jumla. One person is still missing, Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari said.
Informing about the loss of lives and properties by disaster in the district at Tuesday’s meeting of the disaster management committee, he said eight people died when a home belonging to local Ganesh Shahi of Kanakasundari Rural Municipality-5 Barkotebada collapsed.
CDO Keshari further shared, "One person died in Guthichaur Rural Municipality and one in Hima Rural Municipality. One is still missing in Hima Rural Municipality. Electricity and communications remains out of service in the district headquarters for the past one week".

According to him, the floods and landslides have completely damaged 85 plus houses and partially damaged over 200 houses across the district.
All concerned agencies are effortful to collect the details of loss and provide relief and rescue to the people in need, he said, adding security agencies have been mobilized for this.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office Narendra Chand said that incessant rain has obstructed the Karnali Highway. The highway is not likely to come into operation for the next two weeks, he shared.
The Nagma-Gamgadhi road section has also been completely disrupted, the office sources said.
The District Administration Office, Jumla, said the office is preparing to provide relief to 300 households.
