Husband and wife, back from Canada a day ago, found dead (updated)

The deceased’s parents informed the police that they were unaware their son and daughter-in-law had returned to Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Nov 24: A husband and wife were found dead in a hotel in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, on Sunday morning. They had arrived in Kathmandu from Canada just a day earlier.  


Police identified the deceased as Ramesh Majhi, 34, of Sunsari and Sarmila Kumari Majhi, 29, of Morang. They were found hanging from the same scarf in a room on the fourth floor of Hotel Janmabhumi in Sinamangal. Their passports were recovered from the scene.

SP Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police Range, stated that the couple had booked the hotel room on Saturday evening. The deceased’s parents informed the police that they were unaware their son and daughter-in-law had returned to Nepal.  


According to the family, the couple had moved to Canada two years ago. SP Adhikari added that the bodies were sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for post-mortem examinations.  


Police reported that no notes were found at the scene, and the cause of death remains undetermined. Investigations are ongoing.
