KATHMANDU, July 19: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said the monsoon has intensified across Nepal, with rain forecast in most parts of the country.
According to the department, the monsoon trough lies slightly north of its average position in western Nepal, near the Tarai belt, while it remains close to its normal position in the eastern region.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces
Cloudy conditions prevail nationwide. Light to moderate rainfall is currently occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and at one or two locations in Karnali Province.
The department has forecast generally cloudy skies across the country this afternoon. Most hilly, mountainous and Tarai areas are likely to receive moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. High Himalayan regions may also witness snowfall along with rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as at isolated locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. A few Tarai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may also receive heavy rainfall. Extremely heavy rain is possible at one or two locations in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Cloudy conditions are expected to continue tonight. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region, with snowfall also possible in higher elevations. Most hilly areas of Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces, along with many hilly and Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, are expected to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast tonight at a few places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. Isolated hilly and Tarai areas of Madhesh and Bagmati provinces may also experience heavy rainfall. The department has warned that extremely heavy rain is possible at one or two locations in Koshi and Sudurpashchim provinces, urging the public to remain alert.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has also urged people to take necessary precautions, warning that intense rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, inundation, debris flows and riverbank erosion.
