KATHMANDU, August 28: Rastriya Prajatanta Party (RPP) has moved the Supreme Court on Sunday demanding that the registration at the Election Commission of the newly-formed Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Democratic) be scrapped.
A writ petition has been filed at the court arguing that the Election Commission (EC) registered the party without seeing if the party had requisite 40 percent support of the lawmakers and central leaders. A group led by the party's Pashupati Shumshere Rana had decided to split the party accusing party chairman Kamal Thapa of running the party in an arbitrary fashion.
RPP leaders have claimed that many of the signatures presented to the EC for party registration were fake.
