Talking to media persons in Nepalgunj on Saturday, Minister Magar, who is also a politburo member of the Maoist party, argued that the Baidya faction had become a laughingstock by talking about armed struggle in the changed political context. [break]
Magar further claimed that the kind of armed struggle that the Baidya faction proposes would not succeed anywhere in the world, including Nepal. “If the Baidya faction moves ahead as it proposes it will be the first to perish. But the country and the people will also face problems,” he said.
Magar recalled that the Maoists started the armed movement in the hope of ushering in communism within six months. “We fought for 10 years, but where has communism come?” he asked.
He also clarified that it was in the interest of party unity that the establishment faction had not taken any strong action despite the Baidya faction´s continuing with its various ´anarchic activities´.
“Talk of launching a movement is just a revolutionary whim in the present context. It is impossible to come to power through war,” he added.
In a separate context, Minister Magar said that the current Dr Baburam Bhattarai-led government would promulgate a new constitution within the stipulated deadline of May 27. He further claimed that the present government would also hold the general election after the successful conclusion of the peace process and constitution drafting.
