The deceased student succumbed to poisoning, while the other two are being treated at Shubha Swostik Hospital in Bardibas. The internal exams at Nirmal Lama Polytechnic Institute had been ongoing since the previous Sunday. Preliminary investigations suggest the students consumed poison due to mental stress after realizing they had performed poorly in their first exam.
The incident came to light when one of the girls, who had consumed poison, managed to reach the hospital on her own. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rewati Raman Pokharel of the Area Police Office, Bardibas, said that the police launched a search operation after the girl informed the hospital about the poisoning.
The search led to one girl being found unconscious in the forest at 11 am on Tuesday, while the other girl arrived at the hospital at 8 am.
Police investigations indicate that the three friends ingested poison collectively due to exam-related stress. Further inquiries are ongoing.
