PM Oli signs commitment to make Nepal free from child marriage

KATHAMNDU, Dec 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes for the success of the ‘Child Marriage-Free Nepal National Campaign’.


In a meeting with campaigners today (Tuesday) at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli extended his best wishes for the campaign, which started today under the leadership of the National Child Welfare Council.

Since child marriage is a social issue and a legal offense, Prime Minister Oli also signed a commitment to run a campaign against it and make Nepal free from child marriage. The National Penal Code 2017 considers child marriage punishable.


The meeting was attended by former Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Bhagwati Chaudhary, former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, founder of India's "Just Rights for Children" Bhuwan Ribhu, and individuals who have experienced child marriage and are currently involved in the campaign against it.
