KATHMANDU, Sept 16: The Ram Chandra Poudel faction, which has been dissenting against the activities of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, had announced to field a common candidate for the post of president during the 14th General Convention. Some two weeks have already passed by since the announcement, there has been no dialogue among the aspirants of the party’s presidential post from the Paudel-led faction to forge consensus on a common candidate. The Poudel-faction has been facing difficulty to declare a common candidate as there are many aspirants for the presidency within its own faction.

Leaders of Poudel-faction are saying that they are still committed to selecting a common candidate even though there has been no dialogue among them for some time. Ram Chandra Poudel, Shashank Koirala, Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh, who have announced aspirants for the post from Poudel faction, had announced to field a common candidate in the 14th General Convention at a joint press conference on September 2.

Poudel-faction was trying to send a positive message by announcing a common candidate at least before the ward election. For this, the leaders of the Poudel faction had met for three consecutive days.

Leaders of the Poudel faction had held a joint press conference on September 2 to convey the message that they are united after failing to reach an agreement to select a common candidate. But that effort is yet to materialize.

Leaders of the Poudel faction have not held discussion to pick a common candidate after the press conference held on September 2. The Poudel faction had called a meeting of its central committee members at the party's central office in Sanepa on Monday.

The issue of deciding a common candidate, however, was not discussed in the meeting. The meeting had decided to reject the ward convention held in Dadeldhura. The Poudel-led faction did not find it difficult to make this decision. But it seems it has become difficult for the faction to pick a common candidate.
