KATHMANDU, April 1: The coordinator of the mobilization committee for Durga Prasai’s Joint People's Movement Declaration Assembly has been arrested.

A special police team apprehended Devi Sangraula, a permanent resident of Jhapa, on Monday from Bhaisepati, Lalitpur.

Royalists from various organizations and parties had formed a mobilization committee for a joint movement, with Sangraula included as a representative of Prasai. The Joint People's Movement Committee (JPMC) for the Restoration of Monarchy, led by Navaraj Subedi, had previously designated medical entrepreneur Prasai as the public commander of the movement.

Sangraula was arrested for his alleged involvement in the violent protest at Tinkune on Friday. Earlier, four members of Prasai’s security team had also been detained.

Police have already obtained a court order to investigate 41 individuals in connection with the Tinkune violence, which resulted in two deaths, arson, vandalism of offices and private properties, and looting.

Among those arrested are Senior Vice Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary and Member of Parliament (MP) Dhawal SJB Rana.

The crackdown on those involved in the Tinkune violence is ongoing, with police planning to extend custody for further investigation on Tuesday. While his associates have been detained, Prasai fled before the event concluded and remains at large. Police have yet to arrest him.
