KATHMANDU, Nov 2: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has announced that land administration services will be extended to all 753 local levels across the country within a month.
Taking to social media on Monday, Prime Minister Shah said the services, currently available at 33 local levels, would be expanded to the remaining local levels within the next month.
The initiative aims to bring government services closer to citizens and save them from having to travel long distances to access land-related services.

The incumbent government had already included the transfer of land administration services to local levels in its 100-point agenda for governance reforms.
According to Shah, the initiative is being implemented in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 BS, and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2083 BS.
He said the government was accelerating the process to ensure that all remaining local levels begin providing these services within a month. The federal government will also provide the necessary support to local governments to facilitate the transition, he added.
"The core essence of the Federal Democratic Republic is to reduce the distance between the state and its citizens. Its ultimate goal is not for citizens to have to travel to distant offices to access state services and facilities, but rather to bring the necessary offices—and the services they provide—directly to the citizens," Shah wrote.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would enable local governments to fully exercise their constitutional and legal authority over land administration.
The move is expected to make land administration and surveying services more accessible, simpler and more convenient for citizens by easing legal provisions that restrict such authority to the federal level.
