8th Int’l Women's Trade Expo sees 60,000 footfalls

Organizers officially concluded the 8th International Women’s Trade Expo on Monday, five days after it began with the primary aim of promoting and marketing products made by Nepali women entrepreneurs.

KATHMANDU, April 1: Organizers officially concluded the 8th International Women’s Trade Expo on Monday, five days after it began with the primary aim of promoting and marketing products made by Nepali women entrepreneurs.


Speaking at the closing ceremony in Lalitpur on Monday, Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens  Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi highlighted how the 8th International Women’s Trade Expo has helped market and distribute products made by women entrepreneurs.

He expressed his happiness that women entrepreneurs are embracing professionalism and stated, “The country cannot achieve prosperity until women attain development and progress.”


He emphasized that the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) plays a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance among women entrepreneurs.


At the event, Umesh Gupta, executive director of the Industrial Business Development Institute, announced a program to provide collateral-free loans to 500 entrepreneurs this year. He expressed confidence that this initiative would benefit women entrepreneurs.

He highlighted the significant contribution of women entrepreneurs to the country's development and nation-building.

Shobha Gyawali, president of the FWEAN, informed that 60,000 people visited the five-day trade fair.


She estimated that transactions at the trade fair reached up to 30 million rupees and stated that the organizers held the event to enhance the skills of women entrepreneurs and expand market opportunities.


According to her, participants set up 144 stalls at the fair, reserving 10 specifically for international women entrepreneurs. Women entrepreneurs from 72 districts across the country showcased, sold, and promoted their local products.

Women entrepreneurs showcased Nepali products at the stalls. The fair awarded participants representing the top three districts with prizes during the event.


President Gyawali’s personal initiative led Minister Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi to award cash prizes of 10,000, 7,000, and 5,000 rupees to the first, second, and third-place districts, respectively.


Morang secured first place, and Ilam took second. Additionally, Minister Sah presented awards to Panila Rai from Boj Store Pvt. Ltd. for operating the best agricultural stall and Solani Rajbhandari from Lali Enterprises for running the best handicraft stall.

Minister Sah also honored other individuals for their outstanding contributions to organizing the fair.


The fair featured stalls in 10 categories, including handicrafts, agriculture, trade and services, food, and international stalls. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the fair on March 27.
