BIRGUNJ, Aug 5: As many as, 133 new cases of coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) were detected in Birgunj Metropolitan City on Wednesday.
The new cases were confirmed during the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests conducted at Narayani Hospital. Local authorities had collected throat swab samples amid evidence that the COVID-19 cases had already transmitted at community level.
Trace and test
Of 133 fresh cases recorded, 17 were from Bara district and the rest other cases were from Parsa. The infected persons are aged between five to 74 years, according to local government officials.
Government employees, mayor and ward chairpersons of Birgunj municipality and their family members and inmates in Birgunj prison are among those people who are tested positive for the COVID-19. The bordering town Birgunj has emerged as a new hotspot for the COVID-19 infection in the past few days.
Contract tracing and mass testing are being conducted across Birgunj amid rising number of COVID-19 cases reported in the municipal area. The curfew order has been enforced in the metropolitan city since the last 11 days to curb further spread of COVID-19.
The people in Birgunj are grappled with the fear of community level transmission of coronavirus.
