The film dates back to the World War II and the plot revolves round a love story of a Nepal soldier who fought on behalf of the British government in Burma. [break]
Gurung, who was recently voted Popular Player of the Year, will play the role of a young Burmese girl in the movie. The literal meaning of Ghalek is the dress of the Gurung people and the dress is taken as a sign of love in the film.
Although she doesn´t prefer watching films, Gurung says she signed the deal because she liked the script. But the 5´8” tall player insists that she doesn´t wish to make a career in acting.
Gurung, who won bronze medal in the 10th South Asian Games in 2006 at a tender age of 12, says that she wants to see herself as successful and professional player down the line but not as an actor.
“I liked the script and decided to take a shot at acting only after consulting elders,” said Gurung, who has won more than 50 medals in national and international events of volleyball as well as athletics.
The candid and outspoken athlete, who is a 12th grade student at Fishtail Higher Secondary School, Pokhara has signed a deal worth Rs 200,000 for the film.
The shooting will begin later this year on December 31, just two days after her 19th birthday.
