Prasai’s son Nirajan Prasain filed a petition at the SC on Tuesday claiming that police have illegally detained his father and kept him in custody even against the order of the Kathmandu District Court. While hearing the case, Justice Pokhrel issued a show-cause order asking to provide the reason in the name of the defendants including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Police Headquarters, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, and the Kathmandu District Court.

Prasai is currently being investigated for cyber crime and organized crime. He is accused of mobilizing a person in India to threaten entrepreneurs and high-ranking individuals.

Earlier, the Kathmandu District Court had ordered his release on a bail of Rs 40,000 in a case registered under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063 BS. Following his release, Prasai was re-arrested again on new charges of organized crime. The re-arrest occurred shortly after the court’s decision to release him on bail, as police moved to round him up under the new charges.
