Parliament approves privatization ordinance

The House of Representatives (HoR) has approved the Privatization Ordinance (First Amendment). Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel explained that the ordinance aims to manage investments in public assets.

KATHMANDU, March 5: The House of Representatives (HoR) has approved the Privatization Ordinance (First Amendment). Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel explained that the ordinance aims to manage investments in public assets.


However, opposition lawmakers in parliament have opposed the bill, arguing that it solely promotes privatization.

Opposition lawmakers proposed to reject this ordinance, but the majority dismissed their proposal. The government’s privatization ordinance, as a result, has been approved.


The ordinance was issued on January 13. The HoR approved it on Wednesday. Once the National Assembly also approves the ordinance, it will clear the way for the government to introduce a replacement bill.
