Machhindra beat TAC 2-0, lift KP Oli Cup for third time

Machhindra defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0 in the final match held at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar on Monday to lift the title for the third time in a row.

KATHMANDU, March 3: Machhindra Football Club have clinched the title of the third KP Oli Cup Men's Football Championship.


Machhindra defeated Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0 in the final match held at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar on Monday to lift the title for the third time in a row.


Machhindra took the lead in the first half of the match. In the 29th minute of the match, Army's Bimal Pandey scored an own goal from Andres Nia's pass, giving Machhindra a 1-0 lead. Machhindra doubled its lead in the second half with Stefano Zalli scoring in the 72nd minute to ensure the team's victory.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had reached the stadium with his wife Radhika Shakya to watch the final match. Former captain and goalkeeper of the Italian football team Gianluigi Buffon was also present as a special guest during the match.


The stadium was packed with spectators and artists gave musical performances before the match.


The KP Oli Cup, organized by the National Youth Association Nepal, began on February 23. Machhindra had previously won the title in the first edition by defeating Satdobato Youth Club 5-3 in a tiebreaker.


Machhindra also won the second edition defeating New Road Team (NRT) 5-4 in a tiebreaker.


With this victory, Machhindra Football Club has made a hat-trick in the KP Oli Cup.
