WASHINGTON DC, Nov 9: The Nepali diaspora in the USA observed the Chhath festival dedicated to the Sun god on Friday.
The festival originally from the Terai-Madhesh where it is observed with much fanfare, was celebrated in New York, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Ohio featuring a noticeable Nepali population.
The Nepali Hindu community members visited nearby temples to pay homage to the Sun, wishing for the well-being, prosperity, and progress of their family and community.
Chhath festival being observed today
Many Nepali devotees joined the Chhath festival celebration coordinated by the Nepal Education and Cultural Centre at Germantown, Maryland on Thursday.
Organiser Mohan Yadav said they have been organizing Chhath celebrations in a temple for the past few years. He said they are happy to find the moment to pass on the religious, cultural and spiritual significance and values of the festival to the next generation.
In some areas, the Nepali community observed the festival within their homes and communities.
