KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Three candidates have filed their nominations for the post of president of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC). Incumbent President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, along with current General Secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha and Tej Bahadur Gurung, have filed their nominations for the post of President.
The election for the next four-year term of the NOC is being held next Saturday against the interim order of the Patan High Court to stall the election process. A total of 23 candidates, including 3 candidates for the post of president, have filed their candidacies for the executive board. Except for the posts of President and Vice President, all the remaining posts will be unopposed as the number of candidates matches the number of posts.
A total of 23 nominations have been registered online for the 19-member working committee till 11:30 pm on Monday after police stopped in-person registration of the candidacy following the order of the Home Ministry.

Nine candidates have filed their nominations for the posts of seven Vice Presidents. Deepak Harsh Bajracharya, Jyoti Rana, Gopal Sundar Lal Kakshapati, Prakash Shamsher Rana, Dawa Gurung, Anil Prasad Sharma, Tulsi Thapa, Ashok Ratna Bajracharya and Chaturananda Raj Vaidya have filed their nominations for the post.
According to a member of the NOC, preparations are also underway to withdraw the names of two candidates for the post of Vice President and make them unopposed. The deadline for withdrawal of candidatures is Tuesday by 3 pm.
Tashi Ghale is the only candidate for the post of Treasurer, and Ramji Bahadur Shrestha is the only candidate for the post of Assistant Secretary General.
Ramesh Prasad Shiwakoti, Bhim Singh Gurung and Ram Krishna Shrestha have filed their candidacies for the posts of three secretaries. Geeta Rana, Lakpa Tshiring Lama, Ram Avale, Manish Joshi and Jitendra Bahadur Chand have filed their candidacies for the posts of 5 Members.
This time, the number of office bearers has been increased and the number of members has been reduced. While the number of Vice-Presidents has been increased from five to seven, the number of members has been reduced from seven to five.
