PM Oli honors NPL winner Janakpur Bolts

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand expressed gratitude for the government's prioritization of cricket and urged the government to simplify the process regarding the approval of foreign players' work permits.

PM says this is a victory for all Nepalis


KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated and honored the players and managers of Janakpur Bolts, the winners of the first edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL).


At an event held on Sunday at the PM’s residence, Baluwatar, PM Oli congratulated the players, officials and managers of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) who played a role in raising the level of Nepali cricket with excellent performance.

Janakpur Bolts won the title by defeating Sudurpaschim Royals in the match held at Tribhuvan University International cricket ground in Kirtipur on Saturday. PM Oli wished them to achieve greater success in the future and wished them to maintain self-strength, skills and enthusiasm to show that Nepalis can also be world-famous batters.


PM Oli said, “This is a victory for all Nepalis, a victory for Nepali cricket; your extraordinary abilities have been shown through the competition. Runners-up Sudurpashchim Royals also performed well, and the players of Janakpur Bolts, who faced a tough challenge to secure the victory, deserve congratulations. I wish them the best of luck for even greater success in the days to come.”


After assuming office as Prime Minister, he made his first decision to upgrade the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, announcing that tenders have been invited for the project. He said that his and the government's efforts will continue in promoting the development of Nepal's sports sector.


On the occasion, CAN and sports managers complained that the process of bringing foreign players to Nepal and foreign investment or support in the sports sector has become more difficult. In response, PM Oli promised that such a situation should not happen and that the government would facilitate the necessary measures.


CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand expressed gratitude for the government's prioritization of cricket and urged the government to simplify the process regarding the approval of foreign players' work permits. Ashif Sheikh, the captain of Janakpur Bolts, responded that he was happy to meet PM Oli and receive his congratulations and honor.
