KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Whip Krantishikha Dhital has urged the government to ensure that families affected by the Bhotekoshi floods are not left in further uncertainty due to bureaucratic procedures.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday, Dhital said that nearly a month after the floods, the status of thousands of people remains unresolved. She said 1,451 deaths have been confirmed so far, while 5,786 people remain missing.

Dhital said families waiting for news of their loved ones are now being forced to give up hope. Some families have already begun performing final rites according to their traditions, she said, but their legal and administrative procedures remain unresolved.
She said affected families are struggling to access state services and transfer property due to the lack of formal documentation confirming the deaths of their relatives.
“The legal and administrative processes should be facilitated immediately so that citizens can establish their legal status, transfer property and access state-provided services,” Dhital said.
She also urged the government not to delay procedures for providing relief and social security to affected families.
