JHAPA, July 5: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chair Rajendra Lingden has stressed the need to identify the reasons behind the declining performance of community schools despite significant government investment.
Speaking at a program declaring Haldibari Rural Municipality a fully literate local body, Lingden said, “It’s time to ask why community schools are underperforming despite such heavy investment. Where did we go wrong? Why are they weaker than private schools?”

Lingden, who is also a federal lawmaker, said that community schools are better equipped than private ones in terms of infrastructure, teacher salaries, and training. He also noted that some local governments have hired teachers through private funding to address staff shortages.
“We must investigate whether the problem lies in infrastructure, salaries, or training,” he said. “The kind of country we will become depends on the kind of students we produce. The future of Nepal will be shaped by today’s learners.”
He said that whether the country becomes good or bad in the future, teachers also share the credit or blame.
During the program, 32 top-performing students out of 308 SEE graduates from Haldibari for the academic year 2081 BS were honored with cash prizes. Chief guest Lingden, Rural Municipality Chair Rabindra Lingden, and Vice Chair Laxmi Devi Mainali were among those who handed out the awards.
