Fire causes nearly Rs 400 million in damage at  Dang Plywood Factory

The fire that started on Sunday night caused damage worth nearly Rs 400 million, according to the factory owner.

DANG, March 25: A fire broke out at a plywood industry in Dang. The incident occurred around 1 am on Sunday at Shangri-La Plywood Factory in Khaira, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-11.


The fire that started on Sunday night caused damage worth nearly Rs 400 million, according to the factory owner. “The fire has caused nearly Rs 400 million in damage,” said industry owner Gehendra Basnet. “Nothing has been saved from the factory, everything has been destroyed.”


The fire has completely destroyed all the goods in the industry. According to the industry owner, there was a large quantity of timber in addition to the plywood. Despite efforts, the fire could not be brought under control by Monday evening as it spread across a large area. Eight fire trucks were used to control the fire, with fire engines being brought in from neighboring districts, including Banke and Kapilvastu.

Local residents became aware of the fire around 1 am and Giri Raj Roka, who lives near the industry, informed the security guards of the industry after noticing the fires.


According to him, the fire quickly spread throughout the factory as it was filled with timber. After receiving the information of the fire, a police team arrived at the scene.  The fire truck from Ghorahi also reached the location.

Due to the widespread nature of the fire, it could not be controlled. “We received the information of the fire around 2 am and the fire truck had already arrived at the scene by then,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chakra Bahadur Shah from the District Police Office, Dang, “The fire had spread so much that it could not be controlled.”


As the fire could not be controlled, the factory was completely destroyed. “The fire has destroyed everything inside the factory and nothing could be saved,” said DSP Shah. “Although efforts were made to control the fire with the help of eight fire trucks, it couldn't be brought under control.”


According to police, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, they suspect it might have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
