Opposition lawmakers register proposal on teacher and doctor protests

The proposal states that the government has shown no seriousness toward the Kathmandu-centered teachers' protest and has displayed irresponsibility toward crucial issues like school education.

KATHMANDU, April 28: Lawmakers from five opposition parties have registered an urgent public importance proposal in the House of Representatives concerning the ongoing protests by teachers and doctors.


The proposal, covering six key points, was registered on Monday with Hitraj Pandey, chief whip of the CPN (Maoist Centre), as the main proposer. It is supported by Santosh Pariyar, chief whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party; Sher Bahadur Kunwar, a lawmaker from CPN (Unified Socialist); Prabhu Sah, chair of the Aam Janata Party; and Chitra Bahadur KC, chair of Janamorcha Nepal.

It also accuses the government of ignoring the long-running demands of protesting doctors regarding their professional rights.


The lawmakers have called for a discussion in the House to address the agreements made with the Nepal Teachers' Federation, improve the quality of public schools, resume teaching for millions of students, conduct examinations on time, implement decisions made by the Medical Education Commission, and ensure accessible and quality healthcare services.
