KATHMANDU, April 28: A woman, who managed to escape with handcuffs, has been arrested in India. Mina Shahi Damai, 50, who was under the custody of the Kailali police in Nepal on charges of human trafficking, was caught while hiding in Paliya, India.
She had managed to escape on Sunday afternoon when she was taken to the District Government Attorney's Office (DGAO) for an extension of her remand in the human trafficking case. The first extension of 10 days had ended on Sunday, and she was being taken to the attorney's office again for a second extension when she fled.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Padam Bahadur Bista of the Kailali District Police Office, Shahi was facing charges of human trafficking filed by the Area Police Office in Tikapur. She is accused of trafficking a minor girl, who is her relative, to India.
After Shahi escaped from the DGAO while handcuffed, Assistant Police Constable Chakra Prasad Adhikari and Police Constable Lokraj Joshi were held accountable. Both officers, who were stationed at the Area Police Office in Tikapur, have been suspended for failing to ensure her presence at the DGAO.
