A meeting of HLPC held at its secretariat in New Baneshwar decided to hold talks with the government to review the progress made in talks with various agitating parties and reach a conclusion through the exchange of ideas on ending the dispute over proposed election related ordinances.
Both the government and HLPC had held separate talks with the agitating parties to learn about the latter´s concerns and bring them onboard the election process. [break]
According to UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha, members of HLPC are scheduled to hold talks with the government on Sunday morning before holding another round of HLPC meeting later the same day.
HLPC leaders are scheduled to apprise Chairman of the election government Khil Raj Regmi of the progress made in talks with the dissident groups. Likewise, Regmi will also brief HLPC leaders about the developments in talks with the agitating parties.
“We will apprise Regmi about the talks held with various dissident groups,” said Shrestha. The meeting is expected to find a solution to address the demands of the dissident groups.”
According to him, the government will brief with leaders about the progress of the talks with dissident groups and HLPC leaders will brief with the Regmi during the meeting.
Both the HLPC and the government had held talks with some dissident groups, including the Ashok Rai led Federal Socialist Party, Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum and Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities.
Of the dissident groups, the 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist has set a three-point condition for talks with the government. They have demanded that the appointment of Lokaman Singh Karki as the CIAA chief and the government´s 25-point recommendation on removing constitutional difficulties be scrapped. They are also against distribution of citizenship certificates in Madhes.
HLPC to hold decisive talks with dissident parties on Friday
