KATHMANDU, August 23: The main opposition party (CPN-UML) has summoned a Standing Committee (SC) meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting is likely to be attended by the lawmakers who have not joined any of the two factions within the UML after the party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal filed an application at the Election Commission (EC) to form a new political party called CPN (Unified Socialist). The second-rung leaders, who were earlier close to senior leader Nepal, have decided to stay with the UML after Chairman Oli expressed commitment to implement the 10-point agreement.

Earlier on Monday, the lawmakers, who were close to senior leader Nepal for years, had called on KP Sharma Oli and reached an agreement to hold a SC meeting and implement the 10-point agreement prepared earlier by the task force. The Task Force had representation of leaders belonging to both the Oli-led faction and the Nepal-led faction.

The SC meeting is scheduled to be held at Tulsilal Memorial Building at 11 AM Tuesday, according to UML Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang.
