KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Nepal has entered the semifinals of the women's kabaddi competition by defeating Sri Lanka in the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Japan.
In today's final group stage match held at Toki Citizen Gymnasium in Japan, Nepal beat Sri Lanka 34-25 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. With this win, the Nepali women's team has secured a medal in kabaddi.
Earlier, at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, the Nepali women's team had won a bronze medal.
‘Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi’ teaser releases
Nepal, which took a 19-13 lead in the first half, went ahead 15-12 in the second half and ended up winning 34-25 against Sri Lanka. In group 'B', Nepal had beaten Thailand before but lost to Chinese Taipei.
Along with Nepal, Chinese Taipei has also reached the semifinals from Group ‘B’.
Similarly, Nepal also secured a win over Malaysia in the men's kabaddi match held today.
In their final group stage game, Nepal beat Malaysia 73-52. Nepal had a 37-21 lead by the first half of the game. Similarly, in the second half, Nepal led Malaysia 36-31, winning overall by 21 points. This is a consolation win for the Nepalese men's team.
Earlier, with Nepal losing three consecutive matches, the Nepali men's team was knocked out of the tournament.
