KATHMANDU, Sept 25: A strong low-pressure system is centred around northern Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in India and is moving north-northwest, the Weather Forecasting Division said. It is likely to weaken gradually over the next 24 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rain fell in many parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces on Friday morning, as well as a few places in Lumbini and one or two places in Madhesh. Light to moderate rain continues across much of the country.
The division expects mostly cloudy skies nationwide this afternoon. Rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, are possible in the Himalayan areas of several provinces. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely across many hill and Tarai areas.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
A few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali could receive heavy to very heavy rain. One or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini may see extremely heavy rain, while isolated heavy rain is possible in Madhesh. Strong winds are also possible in Madhesh and parts of the Tarai in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.
Mostly cloudy conditions will continue tonight. Heavy to very heavy rain is possible in a few places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim. One or two places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim could receive extremely heavy rain. The division also forecast rain or snowfall in Himalayan areas and rain with thunder and lightning across many hill and Tarai areas. Strong winds may affect Madhesh and parts of the Tarai in Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division said the Kankai River’s water level at the Mainachuli monitoring station in Ilam is near the warning level and rising. It urged people living along the river and in low-lying areas prone to flooding to remain highly alert until this afternoon.
The Roshi River at the Panauti monitoring station in Kavrepalanchok has crossed the warning level and continues to rise. People downstream and in flood-prone areas have been urged to remain alert through the morning.
