Three in Jhapa, two in Banke die of COVID-19

NEPALGUNJ, Nov 1: Three persons succumbed to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Jhapa on Sunday morning.


A male coronavirus patient each from Damak Municipality, Kamal Rural Municipality and Gauradaha Municipality died on Sunday, according to the District Public Health Office.


The 50-year-old man from Damak died while undergoing treatment at Noble Teaching Hospital, Biratnagar. He was diagnosed with coronavirus on Saturday. As of today, Damak Municipality alone has witnessed 16 coronavirus-related deaths.

A 72-year-old man from Kamal Rural Municipality-5 who was earlier diagnosed with COVID-19 died at his own residence. The elderly was also a kidney patient. The number of people dying of the coronavirus in home isolation has climbed to three in the rural municipality, according to Menuka Kaphle, the chairperson of the rural municipality.


Jhapa’s Gauradaha Municipality recorded yet another death on Sunday. A 74-year-old man from Milan Chowk of Gauradaha-4 died while staying isolated at home on Sunday. The municipality has witnessed six coronavirus-related deaths as of today.


Banke sees two more coronavirus-related deaths


Meanwhile, two more coronavirus patients died in Banke district on Sunday morning, taking the death toll from the virus in the district to 31. A 60-year-old woman from Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City-20, Banke, and a 60-year-old man of Tikapur-1 in Kailali died of COVID-19. They died at the Kohalpur-based Teaching Hospital, said Naresh Shrestha, the focal person at the District Health Office, Banke.


The woman was admitted to the hospital on October 24 after having breathing difficulties. She was treated with plasma therapy, but to no avail, said the hospital. The 60-year-old man tested positive for the viral infection on October 31 after he was admitted to the hospital on October 30. He was suffering from respiratory problems.
