BANKE, Jan 25: A national-level badminton tournament has commenced in Banke after a hiatus of 25 years. Sanjay Thapa, representing the Banke District Badminton Association, said that a total of 225 participants from different departments are vying for various titles in the tournament. Banke is hosting this national badminton competition for the first time in two decades.
The tournament will continue until Saturday, featuring competitions in Men's Singles Open, Men's Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles (B-level), and 45 plus Veterans categories.
36th Badminton Tournament kicks off
Winners in the Men's Singles category will receive Rs 70,000 for the first prize, Rs 35,000 for the second prize, and Rs 15,000 for the third prize. Similarly, the Women's Singles champion will be awarded Rs 60,000, with Rs 30,000 for the runner-up and Rs. 15,000 for the third position.
This tournament boasts the highest prize amount among domestic badminton competitions, the organizers claim. The overall cost of the event exceeds Rs 3.1 million, and the tournament is being supported by the Province Sports Council.
