KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Zest Badminton Academy is set to organize the first edition of Zest Open National Badminton Tournament from October 2-6. All the matches will be played at Zest's indoor hall in Basundhara, Kathmandu.
The tournament will feature six events -- men's singles and doubles, women's doubles, U-15 boys, masters 35 plus and 45 plus. According to the tournament coordinator Sudip Yonjan, all categories are open except men's doubles where top 20 ranked national players will not be allowed to participate.
Altogether 134 players from the departmental teams and different districts will take part in the four-day event. The organizer has fixed Rs1000 entry fee for the players participating in the men's singles, 35 plus and 45 plus categories while Rs 1500 is fixed for the players participating in the men's and women's doubles sections. However, no entry fee will be charged for players in the U-15 category.
All the players making it to the final and semifinals will be awarded with cash prizes, according to Yonjan. The tournament will be held as per the rules of Badminton World Federation and Nepal Badminton Association.
