KATHMANDU, Dec 4: Sunsari police have seized 690 kilograms of marijuana seized from two vehicles with government-number plates.
A team from the Area Police Office in Dharan found the marijuana in two vehicles (Ba 1 Jha 5127) and (Ba 1 Jha 4605), which were coming from Dhankuta towards Dharan.The police attempted to check the vehicles in Amarhaat, Dharan-13, but when the vehicles tried to flee, the police had to fire four rounds of bullets to bring the vehicles under control.
The Area Police Office in Dharan held a press conference regarding the incident and said that an investigation has been initiated into the transportation of drugs in vehicles with government number plates.

According to the preliminary investigation, the number plates of both vehicles used for carrying the marijuana were found to match those of government agencies.
The number plate Ba 1 Jha 5127 matches the vehicle number of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, while the number Ba 1 Jha 4605 matches the vehicle number of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, according to the police.
"However, whether those vehicles belong to the respective authorities or not will be clarified only after further investigation,” said SP Suman Timilsina, the chief of Sunsari police.
Police Chief Timilsina stated that the officers had to fire shots after the smugglers attempted to evade a check and rammed the vehicle into the police. The police have arrested Shyam Kumar Bishwakarma, 36 from Sundar Haraincha-11, Morang, who was involved in the incident, while the search for another fleeing driver is ongoing.
