Police seize 17 quintals of marijuana hidden in truck loaded with sand

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Police have discovered that marijuana is being smuggled to India by hiding the contraband in sand and gravel from Nepal’s Saptari district. This new method of smuggling marijuana into India was discovered when police seized 17 quintals of marijuana from a truck loaded with sand on Monday. Police seized the marijuana in Rajgadh Rural Municipality-4 of Saptari, where it was hidden in sand and gravel, and was being illegally transported to India.

Based on information that a truck was loading sand and attempting to smuggle it into India with marijuana hidden beneath, the police conducted a check and recovered 17 quintals of marijuana. The marijuana was reportedly brought from a hilly district and stored in Saptari before being smuggled to India.


This is the first time that 17 quintals of marijuana have been seized at once, even though the smuggling of marijuana is becoming an epidemic. Saptari police said that detailed information about this will be released shortly.
