SOLUKHUMBU, Oct 17: With the improvement in weather conditions at Lukla airport, a total of 690 tourists stranded at Kathmandu and Manthali airports in Ramechhap have landed in Lukla on Wednesday. These tourists had been stranded in Manthali and Kathmandu for two days due to bad weather conditions in Lukla.
According to ATC Officer at Lukla airport Biwas Dahal, 600 tourists stranded in Manthali and 90 tourists stranded in Kathmandu arrived in Lukla on Wednesday.
He said that 350 tourists landed in Lukla through 70 helicopter flights and 340 others tourists through 22 airplane flights.

The CAAN has arranged flights from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap to Lukla for foreign tourists visiting the Khumbu region.
According to the CAAN's data, 800 tourists arrived in Lukla last Sunday through 90 flights. Tourists visiting the Khumbu region begin their trekking from Lukla.
Since there is no road access to Lukla, air service is the primary mode of transportation for both locals and tourists.
Lukla Airport has been in operation since 1971. It is situated at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level.
According to the CAAN, the runway is 527 meters long and 20 meters wide, making it much shorter than most other airports. Due to the short length, overshooting is not possible.
