Parliament adjourned till Thursday as oppn leaders decry Ghising’s sacking

Opposition lawmakers have raised their voice in the parliament against the government’s decision to sack Kulman Ghising, former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

KATHMANDU, March 26: The meeting of the House of Representatives supposed to be held today has been adjourned till Thursday due to continuous obstruction by the opposition parties.


The meeting, which was scheduled to be held at 11:00 am, has been adjourned till Thursday without even entering the agenda of discussion due to obstruction by the opposition.

Opposition lawmakers have raised their voice in the parliament against the government’s decision to sack Kulman Ghising, former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).


The opposition lawmakers including the lawmakers of the main opposition party CPN (Maoist Center) demanded the government’s rationale for the ousting when the meeting started on Wednesday. The meeting, which was scheduled for 11 am, was adjourned for half an hour due to obstruction by opposition lawmakers.


Ghising is said to be close to the main opposition party Maoist Center and was appointed as the MD of the NEA by the Maoist-led government. He is beloved by the Nepali people for his role in ending Nepal’s regular power outages.


Wednesday’s meeting of the HoR was adjourned till 3 pm through a notice published by the parliament secretariat. Speaker Devraj Ghimire adjourned the house till 11 am on Thursday after the opposition lawmakers continued to disrupt the meeting.
